Navratri Day 3 – Worshiping Maa Chandraghanta: Taming the Moon Within!

As we step into the third day of Navratri, devotees honor Maa Chandraghanta, the fierce yet compassionate form of Goddess Durga. She is often depicted with a half-moon (Chandra) shaped like a bell (Ghanta) on her forehead—symbolizing inner balance, courage, and divine protection. But did you know this third day carries deep astrological significance, especially with the Moon’s positioning and its connection to your inner emotional battles?

Maa Chandraghanta & The Planetary Parallel

Astrologically, the Moon governs our emotions, mind, and subconscious reactions. The third day of Navratri aligns with stabilizing the Moon’s energy. Those facing emotional fluctuations, anxiety, or mood swings can benefit by meditating on Maa Chandraghanta’s energy, which offers mental peace and spiritual confidence.

On this day, Moon generally transits from Ashwini to Bharani or Bharani to Krittika Nakshatra (depending on the year). These nakshatras relate to courage, discipline, and transformation—all traits reflected in Maa Chandraghanta’s energy. She blesses devotees with mental strength, emotional composure, and the ability to face fear with dignity.

Who Should Focus More Today?

If you're running through a Mahadasha or Antardasha of the Moon, or if your Moon is debilitated or afflicted in the natal chart, today is ideal for remedies. Chanting her mantra or lighting a diya in her name could bring clarity and calmness.

This day is also special for those going through Chandra-Rahu or Chandra-Ketu combinations, helping reduce illusions, fears, and karmic imbalances.

Colors, Remedies & Rituals

  • Color of the Day: White or light yellow – reflects peace and purity.

  • Mantra: “Om Devi Chandraghantayai Namah”

  • Remedy Tip: Keep a silver item with you or donate milk today—it helps pacify a troubled Moon in your horoscope.

Inner Message of Day 3

Balance your inner bell. - Just like Maa Chandraghanta’s calm face and warrior stance, you too are meant to carry both peace and power. Honor your fears and face them with grace.

  1. Both Day 1 (Maa Shailputri) and Day 3 (Maa Chandraghanta) seem to have a connection with the Moon. Is this an intentional alignment, or could there be a deeper astrological layer we're tapping into here?

    1. On the first day, we associate Maa Shailputri with Moon because she is the daughter of the Himalayas, representing grounding, emotional beginnings, and the start of the lunar journey. Moon rules Monday, the day usually associated with the first Navratri when it falls in line. It sets the tone emotionally and spiritually for the nine days ahead.

    2. By the third day, the same Moon’s energy takes a new avatar. Maa Chandraghanta wears a crescent moon on her forehead, but here, the Moon's role is more about courage, protection, and emotional strength. It’s not about rulership but iconography and symbolism — the Chandra (Moon) on her forehead signifies calmness in battle and inner serenity during external chaos.
